Urgent Cases
This is my big brother Zohan. Don't let his big boy image scare you, because
underneath that hat is the biggest kitten ever.  He is so scared of everything
even cats.  Zo came to us after a man called and said that the dog wandered
up in his yard and was fighting his dogs.  On his way to animal control to be
gassed, the man decided to call S.N.A.S. and of course they just happened to
have room.  Zo arrives and the man opens up the back of the blazer and there
sits Zo.  Of course when our Dad asked if the dog had a name they said no.
Now you got to get up pretty early in the morning to ever fool a animal rescuer.
Would the fact that there were boxes in the back with him and the man said that
the stuff was his brothers that just went to Iraq happen to ring a bell.  Of
course, it was his brothers dog! Zo jumps out and was covered in fleas.  He
had deep punctures on his back and was holding his back leg up. Once inside
and treated for fleas they realized after rubbing him that he had been shot with
pellets.  The story would go that the mans dogs attacked him because Zo gets
along with everyone at the sanctuary.  Zo needs to have his hip worked on and
also treated for heart worms.  This boy has been through so much. Won't you
please spare a dollar or two.
My name is Charlie and  my Dad served in Iraq.  We lived in New York
and after my Dad came home he had problems. Lots of times I would
be his target.  We ended up loosing our house, so we packed up all of
our belongings and lived for months in a Ford truck.  Once we ran out of
money, my Dad would sell some of our stuff along the way for food.
Somehow we ended up in North Carolina having sold all of our things
and were broke.  Days would go past with no food and some people
would be kind enough to give us a few dollars.  Our truck broke down on
the road and we were forced to start walking.  We found a homeless
shelter for men, but they would not allow me, so my Dad found a
remote section of woods and we made camp.  One day we started
walking towards town and a nice lady stopped us and asked if I needed
food.  My Dad told her yes. She explained that she ran the Gretta's
Wish program and provided food for hungry animals.  She said she
would be right back.  My Dad made us go deep into the woods. The lady
came back and thank goodness she left the food where she had seen
us.  Wow! There were all kinds of treats for me and she actually bought
my Dad some food too. That lady came back each week and left us stuff.
One week my Dad was sick and did not pick up the food.  The lady just
happened to see the food the next day and she came into the woods.  I
was so happy to see her and I jumped up.  My Dad hit me really hard
and the lady was really upset. He said that animals must obey and they
should be under control at all times. He would shoot a pistol beside my
head to make me stand still.  She talked to my Dad awhile and then
gave him her phone number in case he ever needed any help.  One day
my Dad got a ride to her house and was really upset. He said that I was
very sick and needed help. They rushed back to me and the lady knew it
was not good. I had bloated. My Dad was very mean to me, but did love
me in his way.  He went to his knees crying. That lady scooped me up
and off to the vets I went.  My surgery was $1,300.  She told my Dad
that I should go home with them until I got better so they could watch
me.  I had my very own room and television. I sat perfectly still and
never moved.  She and her husband would come and lay by me
scratching my head and kissing on me.  I had no emotions.  They called
me a zombie.  One day a few weeks later the lady stopped rubbing me
and I gently nuzzled her with my nose.  She knew that I was learning
what love was.  It has been  awhile and last week, I picked up my first
toy.  They both looked at me and cried.  Today I AM A DOG!!!   I have
learned that hands are for loving, guns are for hunting and not making
me stand still, I can move when I want to,  I can have toys, and can kick
one of them off the bed and they don't mind!   I thought things were
going good and then I started loosing weight and coughing.  They took
me two times to be tested for heart worms and it was negative.  My
new Mom drove me all the way to Delaware to her old vets office and
sure enough I had heart worms.  I got my first treatment and drove all
the way back.  My Dad and Uncle Bill took me the second time and we
got to stay in a motel. They even gave me snacks!  So my nickname is
2000 mile Charlie. My Mom went to talk to my Dad and he left town. I
sure am glad because, TODAY I AM A DOG!    A very happy one.

My total costs of treatments and surgery are almost $2,000.
Won't you please help me.
